BICYCLE ALLOCATION
THE CHALLENGE
After launching our education scholarship programs, we noticed that many motivated girls were struggling to succeed academically. On further investigation, we discovered that while these girls were able to attend school, societal expectations in Nepal placed the majority of household chores such as cooking, cleaning, shopping, and caring for other siblings on their shoulders. This left them with little time for homework and studying for exams. Many girls were also responsible for collecting firewood and carrying it home on their heads during their day off, or doing other similar family tasks while the boys enjoyed more free time.
Many rural schools are situated far from student's homes, and with limited access to reliable and affordable transportation, girls are often required to walk 2-4 hours each day to get to school. This long journey becomes even more dangerous when girls are forced to walk home after school in the dark, exposing them to gender-based violence.

OUR RESPONSE
Bicycles for Girls Educations
Students that demonstrate a commitment to their schoolwork are presented with a bicycle to decrease their commute time and help them get their chores done more efficiently leaving time to focus on their studies.
This program has been even more successful than expected. Not only did our students grades show a marked improvement we also saw noticeable increases in their confidence and self-esteem. The cycle represents a sense of accomplishment, empowerment and pride of ownership.
Bicycles for Mothers Groups
Many mothers were struggling to balance attending mothers' groups, securing employment, and completing the daily household tasks and gardening they were responsible for. To support these committed women, bicycles were provided to active members of the mothers' groups. This initiative has led to significant improvements in household income, enabling parents to cover their children’s educational expenses and break the cycle of poverty. The impact has been transformative, fostering greater financial independence and better opportunities for the next generation.
